My Background...

'Upcycling and reworking my wardrobe has always been a little hobby of mine that's grown into a passion as I have grown up. I would often go to thrift stores in my spare time and find items to later revamp to suit my style. I never took it too seriously and didn't have much knowledge of sewing. A sewing machine always seemed too complicated for me, so most pieces I would cut up and hand sew.

Like many people, I have never had a clear idea of the career path I wanted. Throughout my time at University, I knew I wanted to own my own company but never had a clear vision of what it would be. After graduating, I worked in a few jobs that I really didn't enjoy. They were great experiences, however, I always felt unfulfilled and that I wasn't challenged or able to work to my best abilities and just dreaded going to work each day. Towards the end of my last job, I read a book called Ikigia by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles which I found very inspiring and comforting while I was feeling this way about work and my career. I would really recommend this book to anyone that is in a similar position to this because it really helped me outline my passions and purpose. From this, I started having clear ideas about what business I wanted to run and how to achieve these new goals. My work contract ended and I decided to start this new journey.

I started teaching myself new sewing techniques, started making designs and dug out my sewing machine. After many hours and lots of groundwork, I slowly became more comfortable with a sewing machine and started making pieces for myself. I knew this was what I wanted to do with my business. I set out clear intentions for the company, created strict ethical standards to always adhere to, and made intentions for helping offset the brand's carbon footprint. I wanted the company to match my own personal values so that it was a reflection of my own beliefs.

I proudly make every BeePop piece from my office. This experience has taught me so much about myself and the importance of supporting small brands. It's been extremely humbling. The support I have received from my friends and new customers is very moving and has made all the struggles worthwhile.

I plan to constantly work on creating new and innovative creations and to help educate people on sustainable fashion.'
